Our cancer coaching sessions are tailored to your individual needs. Who Can Benefit From Cancer Coaching

Cancer patients, survivors and caregivers can potentially benefit from Cancer Coaching.

Emotional Support: A cancer diagnosis (whether your own or for that of a loved one) can bring about a range of emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, and sadness. Cancer coaches can provide a safe space for you to express your feelings and concerns, helping you cope with the emotional impact of the diagnosis and treatment.

Empowerment: Cancer coaching aims to empower you by providing you with information and tools to make informed decisions about your overall well-being.

Personalized Guidance: Each cancer journey is unique, and we tailor our guidance to your specific needs and preferences. This personalized approach can help you better navigate your experience and set achievable goals.

Communication Skills: Effective communication with healthcare providers, family members, and friends is crucial for anyone touched by cancer. Coaches can help you develop and refine your communication skills to express concerns, ask questions, and ensure you or your loved one receive the best possible care.

Stress Reduction: Cancer coaching can provide relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices, and stress management strategies that can help you reduce the physical and emotional toll of stress during the cancer journey.

Goal Setting: Cancer coaching can assist you in setting and achieving realistic goals throughout your cancer journey as a patient, caregiver or survivor. These goals may include physical, emotional, and social aspects, helping you maintain a sense of purpose and motivation.

Navigating Transitions: From diagnosis to treatment to survivorship, cancer patients and their caregivers go through various phases. Coaches can help you navigate these transitions and provide ongoing support as you move through different stages of this experience.

Coping Strategies: Cancer coaches can teach you coping strategies to deal with challenges such as uncertainty about the future.

Our Cancer Coaching Process

Start with a free 15 minute introductory video call to meet your coach, determine the goals you have for your coaching journey and which select the format makes the most sense for you (and/or your loved ones).

We all heal, learn and grow in different ways so we offer several different services to meet you where you are:

Individual coaching for patients and survivors: When you are diagnosed with cancer your entire world can get turned upside down. Do you find that you are so focused with scheduling appointments for doctors, imaging, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation that you are losing years of your life just trapped in a cycle of treatment and recovery? It can all be enormously overwhelming. We see you and hear you. We will begin by processing what you are feeling, then move towards developing a plan to help you cope with your daily stresses and the anxiety and uncertainty you may experience on the heavier days.

Group coaching for patients and survivors: You are not alone. Let me repeat that. You are not alone. A cancer diagnosis can feel very lonely. But the truth is: there are millions of others experiencing that same loneliness all over the world. Group Coaching gives you the opportunity to connect with others who are experiencing cancer. Groups come together in a safe and welcoming space to discuss challenges we may be facing in the moment, wins we have accomplished, and tools and solutions to not only help us through the next couple of weeks, but to flourish throughout life. Groups can be formed by you, the client, or you are welcome to join one of the groups that our coach Laurie already facilitates.

Family coaching: When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected. Routines are interrupted, there is a loss of security and certainty and the home can look and feel like a medical facility. Daily activities that may have once been taken for granted now take great planning and strategy. Bath time and dinner time even start to feel like impossible challenges. In short, it can just feel like the whole family is off kilter. We have been there and know wish we’d had some sort of instruction manual to help us through it. That is precisely why we offer family coaching. Family coaching not only helps you to develop the tools to emotionally deal with it all, but we will use our time to come up with real, tangible action items and solutions to the logistical problems that may have come your way. I hope you are ready to explore these possibilities for yourself and your family.

Caregiver coaching: When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected.  Caregivers often take on a lot of that stress and worry. This can take on you. Do you feel that you have been so busy worrying and caring for your loved one, that you have lost sight of yourself?  We are here to offer you a safe place to talk about how all your loved one is experiencing is affecting you on a personal level. They may be the ones who are going through cancer, but that does not mean that what you are feeling is not painful as well. With caregiver coaching, we can work together to process all of the feelings that come along with your loved one’s cancer, how it is affecting you, and then develop a plan to help you process those feelings and move forward, avoiding caregiver burnout in the process. By making sure you are supported during your loved one’s cancer experience, you are actually growing into a better caregiver!

"I came to Laurie after struggling for years to move on after breast cancer. I wasn’t able to let it go and she helped me move on and realize that I had breast cancer, it never had me! Laurie uses her warmth and compassion to listen and get to the real heart of the problem. She then asks the hard questions, that really get you thinking and you see what was holding you back. I am so happy I worked with her and continue to work with her! I am no longer stuck in a place of shame, but rather in a place of pride! I am proud to say I am a survivor!"

  • Marie

“Laurie has helped me by giving me wonderful support and encouragement to keep me going. I found that coaching is a partnership where the goals, ideas, problems, solutions and ultimately the action comes from you. Laurie’s careful questioning and challenging, combined with her listening skills, tease out the important issues and then together you form an action plan.  Laurie has been a wonderful cheerleader in my journey and I am so glad I decided to seek help to make me a better and healthier person. I cannot thank Laurie enough!!"

  • Paige

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. I came to Laurie hoping to move on and stop focusing on the past. I needed to move on and she helped me to do that. I was stuck in a place where I kept feeling sorry for myself, she helped me figure out that it was not my fault. I am starting to feel confident going out in public again, when I had struggled with that in the past, I always felt like everyone was looking and judging me and Laurie helped me to see, that was not the case. I am feeling normal again and I have Laurie to thank for that."
